Azerbaijan has signed a landmark partnership agreement with the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) aimed at accelerating the development of winter tourism and sports, and positioning the country as a host of world-class international competitions, authorities announced on Tuesday.
The agreement, concluded between the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan and FIS, sets the framework for deepening cooperation in infrastructure development, enhancing the Shahdag Mountain Resort, and promoting Azerbaijan as a premier winter sports destination.
As part of the deal, Azerbaijan will serve as FIS’s Global Destination Partner, gaining visibility at major FIS events such as World Cups and World Championships. The partnership also includes joint efforts to promote the country’s tourism brand through international marketing campaigns targeting global audiences.
Key goals outlined in the agreement include transforming Azerbaijan into a hub for professional winter sports competitions, improving existing tourism facilities, and attracting more foreign visitors to the Shahdag region.
Starting from the next winter season, Azerbaijan is expected to host FIS-sanctioned global competitions at the Shahdag Tourism Center, marking a significant step forward for the country’s ambitions in winter sports.
