Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the army will begin withdrawing from two “pilot areas” in southern Lebanon under the U.S.-mediated framework agreement, while maintaining its presence in the strategic Shqif, or Beaufort Castle, area.
Netanyahu said Israeli forces would retain “freedom of movement” to confront threats from Lebanon and claimed Israel had destroyed around 90% of Hezbollah’s missile stockpile. Hezbollah has not immediately commented on the claim.
Fox News, citing a U.S. defence official, reports that U.S. strikes on Iran are “complete”.
The report comes after Iranian state media said explosions were heard in southern Iran, including in Sirik and on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz. There was no immediate official statement from Washington on the scope of the strikes or the targets hit.
Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, citing a military source, says several projectiles targeted a village on Qeshm Island, in southern Iran near the Strait of Hormuz.
The report follows earlier Iranian state media claims that explosions were heard in Sirik, also in Hormozgan province. There were no immediate details on casualties, damage, or who may have launched the projectiles.

One person was killed and two others were injured in an Israeli strike on southern Lebanon on Saturday, marking the first reported casualties since Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a framework agreement on Friday.
