Walt Disney is planning to cut up to 1,000 jobs in the coming weeks, with many of the reductions expected to affect its marketing division, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the plans.

The publication said preparations for the layoffs began before Josh D’Amaro assumed his role as Chief Executive in March and would impact less than 1% of the company’s workforce of about 231,000 employees as of the end of fiscal 2025.

The move follows earlier cost‑cutting efforts at Disney, which announced roughly 7,000 job cuts in 2023 and 2024 as part of a drive to rein in expenses, streamline operations and improve profitability in its streaming business after prolonged losses.

The latest round is also linked to a restructuring of the company’s marketing operations under Chief Marketing Officer Asad Ayaz, who is overseeing a consolidation of teams and cost reductions under an internal initiative known as Project Imagine.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the Wall Street Journal report, and Disney did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside regular business hours.
