A deadly overnight Russian drone assault on Ukraine’s Black Sea port city of Odesa left one person dead and at least 14 injured, striking residential buildings and key rail infrastructure, according to local authorities.
Photos showed widespread fire damage and charred buildings. Ukraine’s emergencies service reported at least 10 drone strikes on homes triggered large fires.
"Despite the active work of air defence forces, there is damage to civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, a higher education institution, a gas pipeline and private cars," local governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram messenger.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 86 drones overnight, with 34 intercepted and 36 either misdirected by electronic warfare or being fake warhead-less drones. However, drone strikes still hit 8 different locations.
Ukraine’s national railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, confirmed that the Odesa railway station sustained damage, affecting power lines and tracks.
In Kharkiv, authorities said Russian drones also hit residential areas, damaging private homes and apartment buildings, local authorities said.
