Iran has sharply criticized a newly passed resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, describing it as "a politically driven initiative led by the United States and three European nations."
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is compelled to react to this politically charged resolution," stated a joint communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
The statement also noted that the head of the AEOI has instructed the construction of a new uranium enrichment facility in a secure location and the replacement of first-generation centrifuges at the Fordow site with more advanced IR-6 machines.
In a joint statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) dismissed the recent IAEA resolution as a “recycled political tool” lacking any technical or legal foundation. “Iran has consistently complied with its Safeguards obligations,” the statement affirmed, adding that no IAEA report has ever indicated any diversion of nuclear materials or activities by Iran.
The statement went on to denounce the IAEA’s latest report as “completely political and biased,” asserting that the resolution's contents even contradict the agency’s own assessments. It accused the resolution’s sponsors of reviving outdated allegations—some more than 25 years old—that were officially closed under the IAEA’s November 2015 resolution. That resolution affirmed the agency’s responsibility to verify and monitor Iran’s nuclear commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in accordance with U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231.
“These measures by the four countries come even as they remain silent on the Zionist regime’s refusal to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its pursuit of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear arms,” the statement continued. “They have also taken no action in response to threats by this regime to attack peaceful nuclear facilities of NPT member states.”
The joint statement concluded that the resolution severely damages the credibility and impartiality of the IAEA, exposing the agency’s political bias.
