Greece has ruled out accepting refugee returns from Germany, citing overwhelming migration pressure and a lack of burden-sharing within the EU.
Greece’s Immigration and Asylum Minister Makis Voridis has said Greece will not accept requests from Germany to take back refugees who first applied for asylum there.
Voridis insisted that returns are out of the question under current conditions, noting that Greece already hosts the highest number of refugees per capita in the European Union after Cyprus.
Responding to a report that a German court ruled deportations to Greece were permissible, Voridis argued that such actions would not solve broader migration issues.
He emphasized that, with Greece facing intense pressure as a host country, discussions about returns are unacceptable without a fairer distribution of responsibilities across the EU.
