Daniil Medvedev has been fined $76,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct, including a racket-smashing incident and skipping the post-match press conference at the Australian Open.

Daniil Medvedev has been fined a significant portion of his Australian Open prize money for unsportsmanlike behavior during the tournament, including a racket-smashing outburst in the first round.

The 28-year-old Russian struck his racket against the net repeatedly during his opening match victory against Thai wildcard Kasidit Samrej on Tuesday, venting his frustration. In his second-round match against American Learner Tien on Thursday, Medvedev received a point penalty after hurling his racket toward the sideline. He also skipped the mandatory post-match press conference following his five-set loss.

As a result, the tournament organizers fined him a total of $76,000. Players who reach the second round typically earn around $123,000. Medvedev, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, has accumulated over $45 million in prize money throughout his career.
