In his second-round match against American Learner Tien on Thursday, Medvedev received a point penalty after hurling his racket toward the sideline. He also skipped the mandatory post-match press conference following his five-set loss.
As a result, the tournament organizers fined him a total of $76,000. Players who reach the second round typically earn around $123,000. Medvedev, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, has accumulated over $45 million in prize money throughout his career.
