The iconic Dubai Fountain will close for five months starting in May for a major upgrade, enhancing its technology, choreography, and sound system. Visitors can expect a more spectacular show when it returns in October.
Emaar has announced that the iconic Dubai Fountain, the world’s largest performing fountain, will be temporarily closing for a five-month upgrade starting in May. This decision marks a significant step in enhancing the beloved fountain’s performance, which has captured the hearts of millions of visitors from around the world. The closure is part of a comprehensive renovation that will take the bulk of the year to complete, with the fountain expected to return in October.
The Dubai Fountain, located at the base of the Burj Khalifa and in front of the Dubai Mall, has long been a centerpiece of Downtown Dubai. Known for its stunning water displays, the fountain show has wowed audiences with synchronized performances set to music and lights. Water jets shoot as high as 140 meters, spraying up to 22,000 gallons of water into the air in a single show. Classic songs such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman’s Time to Say Goodbye, and EXO’s Power are regularly featured in the spectacular shows.
The upcoming upgrade will introduce state-of-the-art technology, improved choreography, and an enhanced lighting and sound system. These changes are expected to elevate the fountain’s performance and make it even more captivating for visitors when it returns later this year.
Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar, shared his excitement for the transformation, emphasizing that the Dubai Fountain is much more than just a spectacle. "Dubai Fountain is a reflection of Dubai’s soul, where art, innovation, and emotion come together in perfect harmony," Alabbar said. “As we elevate this iconic landmark, we continue to create experiences that connect people, inspire wonder, and stand the test of time."
While the fountain is closed for its upgrade, visitors to Downtown Dubai can still enjoy the Dubai Mall and take in breathtaking views from the Burj Khalifa. Emaar has reassured the public that the improved fountain show will return with even greater spectacle and excitement, ensuring it continues to inspire awe for years to come.
