The Academy Awards nominations have been announced, with the crime drama Sinners leading the race securing a record 16 nominations ahead of the ceremony set for 15 March. The event, which honours the film industry’s top achievements over the past year, will be hosted by comedian Conan O'Brien.
The film Sinners surpassed the previous nominations record jointly held by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997) and La La Land (2016), each of which received 14 nominations.
One Battle After Another followed with 13 nominations, while Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, and Sentimental Value each secured nine nods.
The historical drama Hamnet earned eight nominations.
The nominees for best picture include Bugonia, Frankenstein, F1, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, and Train Dreams.
For best actor, nominees include Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.
Best actress nominees are Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value, and Emma Stone for Bugonia.
In supporting categories, nominees include Elle Fanning, Wunmi Mosaku and Teyana Taylor for supporting actress, while Benicio del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Delroy Lindo, Sean Penn and Stellan Skarsgård are nominated for supporting actor.
The best director nominees are Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, Ryan Coogler for Sinners, Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value, and Chloé Zhao for Hamnet.
In the international feature category, nominees include It Was Just an Accident, Sentimental Value, Sirât, The Secret Agent, and The Voice of Hind Rajab.
For animated feature, contenders include Arco, Elio, KPop Demon Hunters, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2.
The ceremony will take place this weekend, when winners across technical and creative categorie, including cinematography, editing, score, sound, and visual effects, will be announced.
