Azerbaijani Press Council members met with Turkish diplomats in Baku to discuss expanding media ties and addressing challenges in bilateral coverage.
Members of the Board of the Azerbaijani Press Council visited the Turkish Embassy in Baku for discussions focused on strengthening media cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün extended congratulations on the occasion of Azerbaijan’s National Salvation Day on June 15 and the 150th anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press. He also underscored the historical significance of the 2021 Shusha Declaration, describing it as a key document in Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations.
The ambassador highlighted ongoing plans to deepen cooperation in the media sector between the two countries.
Press Council Chairman Rashad Majid noted that the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for dialogue. He emphasised the importance of National Salvation Day for the Azerbaijani people and described the Shusha Declaration as a roadmap for long-term strategic partnership. Majid also stressed the importance of reinforcing media solidarity between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
During the meeting, board members shared their views on the media landscape and raised concerns regarding certain articles published in Turkish media that they said could undermine trust between the two countries. Participants agreed on the need for joint efforts to address such issues.
The discussions also covered future cooperation, ways to enhance information exchange, and potential joint initiatives aimed at further strengthening bilateral media relations.
