North Korea has condemned U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for calling it a "rogue state", warning of strong countermeasures against what it calls continued U.S. hostility. The criticism comes as the U.S. moves forward with plans for a new missile defense shield.
North Korea issued its first official criticism of the Trump administration on Monday, responding to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent comments referring to Pyongyang as a "rogue state".
A statement from North Korea’s foreign ministry, published by state news agency KCNA, warned that Pyongyang will "never tolerate any provocation" and will respond with "strong countermeasures."
The statement also condemned U.S. plans for a next-generation missile defense shield, arguing that the project increases regional tensions and justifies North Korea’s military expansion.
The criticism follows President Trump’s recent executive order directing the development of an "American Iron Dome", a missile defense system aimed at countering ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missile threats.
With tensions rising, Pyongyang’s warning signals a potential shift in U.S.-North Korea relations under the new administration.
