Recovery teams are continuing operations in Grand Canyon National Park after flash floods swept through parts of the canyon over the weekend, leaving one person dead and leading to the discovery of a second body that has yet to be recovered.
According to the U.S. National Park Service, floodwaters surged through the area on 29 August, carrying people and debris into the Colorado River. Rescue and recovery efforts are continuing as officials work to locate those unaccounted for following earlier reports of about 20 people missing.
The incident unfolded in one of the most visited national parks in the United States, where thousands of tourists travel each year to explore the canyon and take part in river-based activities.
Park authorities said more than 60 people had been evacuated to safety following the flooding, with additional evacuations planned as a precaution.
While no injuries have been reported, officials are continuing to assess conditions in affected areas and monitor potential risks to visitors and staff.
The National Park Service has not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding those reported missing or the extent of the search operation.
The flooding has also disrupted visitor activities across the park. Several tourist attractions have been temporarily closed, while some operations on the Colorado River have been suspended.
Authorities said investigations are under way to determine the full impact of the flooding and assess any damage to infrastructure and park facilities.
