Thousands rallied in Washington, protesting President-elect Trump's inauguration and advocating for gender justice, democracy, and civil rights.
Thousands of people, primarily women, gathered in Washington on Saturday to protest the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Protesters assembled at Franklin Park, one of three starting points for the "People's March," which made its way through downtown despite light rain. The rally at Franklin Park centered on advocating for gender justice. Other groups gathered at two nearby parks near the White House, focusing on issues like democracy, immigration, and local Washington concerns.
Compared to the widespread protests of 2017, the current demonstrations are smaller, partly due to divisions within the U.S. women’s rights movement following Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
The march was organized by a coalition of reproductive rights, civil rights, environmental, and women’s advocacy groups, united in opposition to Trump’s agenda as he prepares to take office on Monday.
