Russia launched an overnight drone attack on Ukraine’s Odesa region, damaging residential buildings and infrastructure, and injuring four people, including three children, according to regional authorities on Wednesday.
Odesa, a key Black Sea port, has been a frequent target of Russian missile and drone strikes during nearly four years of conflict, with attacks often focusing on energy, transport, and port infrastructure, as well as residential areas.
Oleh Kiper, governor of the Odesa region, confirmed the attack on Telegram, stating, "Strike drones attacked residential, logistics and energy infrastructure in our region."
The injured included a seven-month-old infant and two other children, as well as a 42-year-old man, said Serhiy Lisak, the head of Odesa's military administration. The attack occurred in Odesa city, the administrative center of the broader Odesa region.
Drone debris and direct hits caused significant damage to the facades and windows of several high-rise apartment buildings in the city. Images shared by Lisak showed smoke billowing from a multi-storey apartment building at night, with flames visible in several windows, as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
While these reports were confirmed by Ukrainian officials, Reuters was unable to independently verify the details. Russia has yet to comment on the overnight attacks on Odesa.
