Another opposition-linked figure has been detained in Armenia following the country's parliamentary elections. Avetik Chalabyan, coordinator of the national-civic movement HayaQve, was taken into custody as part of a criminal investigation.

“Early this morning, as part of yet another fabricated criminal case, HayaQve coordinator and public-political figure Avetik Chalabyan was detained,” a statement from HayaQve, posted to Telegram, said.

The Armenian Investigative Committee, an independent state investigative authority, said Chalabyan's detention is part of an ongoing criminal case.

No further details were provided; it was noted that an official statement would be issued later.

In April, HayaQve signed a cooperation memorandum with the Strong Armenia bloc linked to businessman Samvel Karapetyan.

The detention comes after Armenia’s 7 June parliamentary elections, won by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his Civil Contract party.
