Azerbaijan-Israel relations 'expanding across all areas' amid Foreign Minister Sa'ar's trip to Baku

“What we've seen in the last few years is an expansion of all relations between Azerbaijan and Israel,” said Maurice Hirsch, from the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs. His remarks came as Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar visited Baku, Azerbaijan on 26 January.

During the trip, Sa’ar met with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

The official talks focused on diversifying the partnership beyond the historical exchange of Caspian hydrocarbons for Israeli defence technology.

President Aliyev and Minister Sa’ar discussed civilian infrastructure, water and agricultural technologies, artificial intelligence, and high-tech cooperation. The intergovernmental commission was praised for its role in facilitating these initiatives.

Hirsch noted the broader strategic value of the dialogue.

“Both sides can enjoy this relationship. And it can provide for a gap in the different areas of the globe and all within the same geographical region, almost. And it really has very great benefits for both sides,” he said.

The visit also included the Azerbaijan–Israel Business Forum, signalling an effort to strengthen private-sector ties and make the alliance more resilient to regional uncertainties.

Hirsch highlighted that trade between the two nations has grown consistently.

“We've seen trade really expanding through tens of millions of dollars every single year. And there is the opportunity for much more development, both political and economic,” Hirsch concluded.
