In a Fox News interview, President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan’s transit deal with Armenia is “not against anyone” and marks the “final step toward peace,” while also addressing the 2024 downing of AZAL Flight 8243, demanding accountability and full compensation.
During his visit to the United States, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to Fox News, stated that “it will be very difficult for any country – whether from our region or beyond – to say something negative about today’s achievement, because today we have taken the final step toward peace.”
Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the agreement on the Zangezur Corridor, also referred to as the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), is not aimed against anyone, describing it as “a connectivity project” and “one of the important parts of international transportation.”
He expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and his team for their role in brokering the deal.
The Azerbaijani leader also addressed relations with Russia and the December 2024 downing of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243.
He noted that Baku does not consider the incident a deliberate attack, but added: “We simply demanded that it be acknowledged, that those who committed the crime be punished, and that full compensation be paid.”
