Armenia-U.S. joint exercise 'Eagle Partner 2025' kicks off

A joint military exercise between Armenia and the United States has kicked off today on the 12th of August according to the country’s defence ministry.

The opening ceremony was attended by Lt. Gen. Edward Asryan, Armenia's first Deputy Defence Minister and Chief of General Staff, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Christina Quinn, senior military personnel and other invited guests.

Officials said the exercise which is expected to run till the 20th of August will focus on preparation and execution of peacekeeping operations with a strong emphasis on medical evacuation procedures.

In a statement released by the United States Embassy in Armenia, service members from the peacekeeping brigade of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, U.S. Army Europe and Africa, and the Kansas National Guard will participate in the drill.

It also said the purpose of the exercise is to enhance the interoperability of units participating in international peacekeeping missions, exchange best practices in control and tactical communications, and improve the readiness of the peacekeeping unit of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

The exercise highlights the strengthening of ties between Yerevan and Washington which focuses on defence cooperation, democratic reforms, rule of law and economic development with the U.S. providing aid and technical assistance.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was in Washington last week alongside Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to sign an historic peace deal brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
