According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers plan to discuss a wide range of pressing regional and international issues, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve the Iranian nuclear program, the situation in Syria, the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea region.
"The ministers also plan to discuss vital aspects of strengthening coordination at the level of the United Nations and other international platforms, including the SCO and BRICS," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
Araqchi arrived in Moscow at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, for a two-day visit.
On Thursday, Araghchi was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting was also attended by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, and Kazem Jalali, Iranian Ambassador to Russia.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araqchi stated that he is currently in Moscow to deliver a message from the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, to the President Vladimir Putin. He noted that the message concerns international and regional developments, in addition to matters of bilateral significance.
"It perfectly coincided with the latest developments, including the indirect talks. We have always discussed the nuclear issue closely with our friends from Russia. We have exchanged views, we have consulted. And now is exactly the right time to discuss it with the Russian side," the Iranian top diplomat added.
The Russian and Iranian foreign ministers previously met on February 25 during Lavrov's working visit to Tehran.
