IRGC warns adversaries against miscalculation

Any miscalculaton by Iran's adversaries will be met with a crushing and decisive response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has said, IRNA, the state news agency, reports. 

In a statement released on Friday ahead of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's funeral, the IRGC said the funeral wasn't only a farewell, but also a renewal of commitments to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.

Ghalibaf, who is also Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, made the remarks during a meeting with He Wei, Vice Chairman of China's National People's Congress in Tehran on Friday.

U.S. media, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, report that Israeli officials had considered targeting senior Iranian negotiators during earlier talks aimed at ending hostilities between Washington and Tehran. According to the reports, unnamed U.S. officials said figures including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were among those discussed. U.S. officials also told the outlets that Washington warned regional countries to alert Iran, while Israel has not publicly commented on the claims.

A senior official from Lebanon’s Amal Movement met Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Tehran, alongside other Lebanese representatives, according to Iranian media. The two sides discussed bilateral ties and emphasised solidarity between Iran and Lebanon, as well as cooperation between their parliaments.

Trump: Iran has agreed to 'just about everything' in negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are making progress, claiming Tehran has agreed to “just about everything” Washington has demanded in ongoing talks. Speaking to CNBC, Trump said the U.S. is not seeking regime change in Iran, but insists the country must not acquire a nuclear weapon.

He also defended recent U.S. military strikes on Iran, saying Tehran had been “totally defeated militarily,” while mediators in Qatar and Pakistan said the next round of talks will be held after funeral ceremonies for Iran’s former Supreme Leader.

Pakistan, Lebanon officials attend Khamenei funeral in Iran

Officials from across the region are arriving in Iran ahead of the funeral of slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with delegations from Pakistan and Lebanon among those confirmed to attend.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Seyyed Mohsin Naqvi described Iran as Pakistan’s “second home” upon arrival, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to take part in the ceremonies. Iranian officials say representatives from more than 100 countries will be present at the multi-day funeral beginning Saturday.
