The posibility of launching direct flights between Tbilisi and Bishkek was floated by Georgian Prime Minister Irkali Kobakhidze and Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov during an official visit by the former to the Central Asian nation.
Japarov hailed the visit by the Georgian leader as the beginning of a “new stage” in the development of relations between the two former Soviet states, in a statement released on Friday.
“President Sadyr Japarov noted the particular significance of the current visit, which marks the first official visit of a Georgian official to Kyrgyzstan at such a high level,” the statement added.

During the meeting in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, the two leaders also discussed expanding trade and economic ties, as well as strengthening transport and logistics links.
“President Sadyr Japarov noted that Georgia, with its unique geographical location and developed port infrastructure on the Black Sea, plays a key role in ensuring transport connectivity between Asia and Europe,” the statement added.
“In this regard, cooperation between the two countries in transport and logistics is particularly important.”
Kobakhidze invited Japarov to pay an official visit to Georgia during the meeting.
A later statement issued by Kyrgyzstan's President said that nine documents were signed by the two sides following the talks in Bishkek, as well as a joint statement. Kobakhidze arrived in Bishkek on Thursday.
The U.S. says it has launched strikes on Iran after alleged attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington described the action as a response to threats against civilian shipping and a breach of the ceasefire.
