Macao opened the 17th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum on Thursday, with officials and industry leaders highlighting the role of green and digital technologies in strengthening global infrastructure connectivity.

The 17th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum and Exhibition opened in China's Macao Special Administrative Region on Thursday (11 June), bringing together government officials and companies to discuss advances in green and digital infrastructure.

The event is jointly organised by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute of the Macao SAR and the China International Contractors Association. Organisers said the forum combines conferences, exhibitions and business meetings in a three-in-one format, featuring more than 250 thematic and side events alongside an 8,000-square-metre exhibition area.

Green and digital focus

Tam Vai Man, Secretary for Transport and Public Works of the Macao SAR Government, said the forum has built on more than a decade of experience to become a major annual event for global infrastructure cooperation.

Under the theme "Boosting Green Digital Infrastructure Connectivity", Tam said this year's forum focuses on the latest applications and practices of green and intelligent digital technologies in the infrastructure sector. The Macau Post Daily reported that he said the three-day event aims to build consensus on mutually beneficial cooperation and provide new solutions for global infrastructure connectivity.

Belt and Road reports

The forum also saw the release of the Report on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2026) and the Report on Portuguese-speaking Countries' Infrastructure Development Index and Macao's Achievements in the Belt and Road Initiative (2026).

In a video address, Yuan Xiaoming, Assistant Minister of Commerce of the Central People's Government, said the Chinese mainland's overseas project contracting performance reached a record high in 2025, with newly signed contracts worth U.S.$178.8 billion. Contracts signed in Belt and Road partner countries accounted for 89.2 per cent of the total, he said.
