China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to participate in the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the opening ceremony of the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.
This announcement was made by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian during a regular press conference.
In response to questions seeking additional details, Lin Jian referred to the Beijing Summit of FOCAC, held in September of last year. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the summit's opening ceremony. According to Lin Jian, "China and Africa reached extensive common understandings on joining hands to advance modernisation and building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era." He also stated that the relationship was characterised as "at its best in history" at that time.
Since the Beijing Summit, efforts have reportedly been made by both sides to implement the agreements and outcomes. Lin Jian noted the achievement of "important progress and many early harvests" in these efforts.
The Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of FOCAC is scheduled for June 10 to 12 in Changsha, Hunan. The Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo will take place concurrently. Foreign Minister Wang Yi is expected to attend these events, along with representatives from the 54 African FOCAC member states.
Regarding the upcoming meetings, Lin Jian indicated that "China will enhance coordination with Africa with a focus on implementing the six-point proposition of jointly advancing modernisation and the 10 partnership actions put forward by President Xi." The stated objective is for "people in China and Africa [to] benefit more from the outcomes of the FOCAC summit."
Lin Jian concluded by stating that "the two sides will work together to create more great stories about China-Africa cooperation for high-quality development and send a strong message of solidarity and collaboration among members of the Global South."
These upcoming events in Changsha are set to continue discussions and initiatives related to cooperation between China and African nations.
