EU countries are calling for a bloc-wide age verification system for social media, aiming to shield minors from harmful and addictive online content.

Spain, Greece, and France are urging the European Commission to implement an EU-wide age verification system for social media to protect minors from harmful content.

The countries propose legislation to limit access to addictive content, enhance parental controls, and establish a "digital-age majority" for social media use. While France and Greece support a ban on social media for users under 15, Spain is leaving the discussion open at the EU level. The policy will be discussed by EU digital ministers on June 5.

Each country is also working on its own solutions, with Spain and France introducing mandatory age verification for adult sites, while Greece has launched a "Kids Wallet" for age checks. The European Commission is expected to release final guidelines on protecting minors by the end of the summer.
