India's parliament disrupted amid Adani allegations

Both houses of India's parliament were suspended temporarily on Thursday shortly after opening, as opposition lawmakers disrupted proceedings for a third consecutive day, demanding a discussion on allegations against the Adani Group.

U.S. authorities have accused Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani, and Adani Green's managing director Vneet S. Jaain of paying $265 million in bribes to secure Indian solar power contracts and misleading U.S. investors during fundraising efforts.

Manickam Tagore, a Congress lawmaker, stated, "We want a discussion in parliament and a response from the prime minister," as protests led by the opposition party continued. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called for Gautam Adani's arrest, intensifying demands for action.

Opposition parties have accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of favouring Adani and obstructing investigations, allegations both deny. BJP spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal stated that the party would not defend Adani, emphasising the law would take its course.
