Drone strikes overnight in Russia’s Kursk region left one dead and nine injured, local officials said Tuesday. The border area, frequently hit amid the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, saw widespread damage to residential buildings and emergency services.

A series of drone strikes hit Russia’s Kursk region overnight, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to nine others, regional officials reported on Tuesday. The Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, has experienced frequent cross-border attacks since the onset of the conflict.

According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, 109 drones were intercepted over the region. The regional administration described the event as a “massive enemy attack” and stated that an 85-year-old woman died as a result. Several residential and public facilities were affected, including a multi-storey apartment building where multiple flats were damaged by fire. Local authorities said residents were evacuated to a nearby school for safety.

An ambulance garage was also struck, with damage reported to 11 vehicles. Images posted by the administration showed broken windows and fire damage to building exteriors.

The strike follows another incident in the same region on Monday evening, where three people were reportedly killed. There has been no official response from Ukrainian authorities regarding the latest strikes, and Reuters noted it could not independently verify the reports.

Cross-border incidents between Ukraine and Russia have increased in frequency in recent months, with both sides continuing to exchange strikes while maintaining that they do not target civilians.
