Hamas launched rockets at southern Israeli cities as both sides trade blame for the collapse of ceasefire talks.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas says it fired a barrage of rockets at cities in southern Israel in response to what it called Israeli "massacres" of civilians in Gaza.
Israel's military reported that about 10 rockets were launched, most of which were successfully intercepted.
Initial reports indicated a direct hit in Ashkelon, prompting emergency medical crews to respond.
Israeli emergency services said they were treating one person for shrapnel injuries, and teams were dispatched to the sites where rockets had fallen. Damaged car windows and debris were scattered across a city street.
The first phase of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began on January 19, following 15 months of war. It included a pause in fighting, the release of some Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and the freeing of several Palestinian prisoners.
However, on March 19, Israel announced that its forces had resumed ground operations in central and southern Gaza. Both sides have blamed each other for the breakdown in ceasefire talks.
