A knife attack in Mulhouse has left one person dead and three injured. France’s Interior Minister says migration issues played a role in the incident.
A man attacked local police officers in Mulhouse on Saturday, shouting "Allahu Akbar," according to the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office. A passer-by was killed trying to intervene, while three police officers were injured.
French President Emmanuel Macron called it an act of Islamist terrorism. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau blamed migration issues, saying the attacker was in France illegally and had been refused return to Algeria ten times. He added that the suspect had past convictions for terrorism-related offences and suffered psychiatric troubles.
The attacker has been arrested, and anti-terrorism prosecutors are investigating.
