U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent visited Ukraine this week, emphasizing American interests in Ukraine’s post-war economy and aligning with President Donald Trump’s push to end the conflict.
Bessent, the first U.S. cabinet secretary to visit Kyiv, said the trip aimed to assure Ukrainians of U.S. partnership while stressing that Americans would benefit from post-war economic opportunities.
Speaking on Fox News, he noted potential U.S. involvement in Ukraine’s strategic minerals, energy sector, and state-owned enterprises, though no details were provided.
In Kyiv, Bessent highlighted a potential minerals deal as a "security shield" for Ukraine. Trump has stated that $500 billion in rare earth minerals from Ukraine should be part of any future U.S. support package.
While Trump seeks a rapid resolution to the war, his stance on continued military aid to Kyiv remains unclear.
