Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed surprise after Donald Trump mediated the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement in 2025, the U.S. President said at a rally in New York state on Friday.
“Actually, Putin couldn't believe it. He told me that he had been trying to resolve this conflict for 10 years and couldn't. And I did it in two days,” Donald Trump told supporters in the city of Syracuse, New York.
The U.S. President also reiterated his complaints about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in the speech.
“This is an indelible stain on the country of Norway and those people that made such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision,” Trump said.
“The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilization. And we will not forget, Norway,” he said.
Norway hosts the Nobel committee, which awards the annual prize in the capital Oslo.
Navi Pillay, a former International Criminal Court judge who oversaw a UN report that concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza, was announced as the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize earlier in the day.
Trump called Pillay a mystery person. “I never heard of the person. Nobody did,” he said.
The U.S. President added that he had helped prevent wars from breaking out between North and South Korea, Japan and North Korea, and China and Taiwan, without providing evidence.
Trump was joined on stage by former heavyweight boxing Champion Mike Tyson at the rally, with the pair exchanging praise and jokes in front of supporters.
Tyson expressed his support for Trump, while the President recalled watching Tyson box and joked that he would not want to fight him
The rally was held in support of Republican Bruce Blakeman, who is running to become Governor of New York, and other GOP candidates ahead of elections in November.
