Two die in Russian strikes on Kyiv, local officials say

Russian strikes killed two people in southeast Kyiv overnight, local officials said on Wednesday.

The attacks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a “massive strike” from Russia in a video posted to social media on Tuesday night.

Several explosions were heard in Kyiv at around 3:15 local time, Ukrainian newspaper the Kyiv Independent reported, citing local sources.

Earlier, two civilian vessels were attacked in Bulgaria’s economic zone in the Black Sea on Tuesday, authorities said. One of the ships sank and the other was significantly damaged.

Zelenskyy said a joint investigation with Bulgaria’s navy established that Russia was behind the attack.

However, Reuters reported that Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Rumen Radev said it was unclear whether the drones came from Russia or Ukraine.

A maritime security source said an initial assessment suggested the attack was probably Russian. Moscow has made no comment on the incident.
