U.S. President Donald Trump has called for Iran to pay compensation for decades of deaths and damage, adding a new demand to peace talks as Tehran seeks compensation and sanctions relief before reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil prices rose on Tuesday as U.S.-Iran negotiations over a peace deal and reopening the Strait of Hormuz remained at an impasse, adding to concerns over inflation and keeping Asian markets cautious.

Brent crude reached $88 a barrel while U.S. crude climbed to $82.45, their highest levels since 31 July, after both gained around 5 per cent on Monday.

Former IRGC commander Hossein Kanani Moghaddam has described the new Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Türkiye defence agreement as a deterrence measure rather than a direct threat to Iran.

He argued the three countries would be unlikely to intervene if Iran targeted a U.S. base in Saudi Arabia, saying Tehran would consider such an operation an attack on U.S. forces rather than on Saudi Arabia itself.

Trump reportedly took secret military flight from Türkiye over Iran threat

The Washington Post reported that U.S. President Donald Trump secretly switched to a smaller military aircraft after leaving Ankara last month due to an Iranian threat, despite the White House saying he was travelling aboard Air Force One.

Trump was reportedly transferred via an airport catering truck to an Air Force C-32A, which flew him to Britain as a separate Air Force One aircraft carrying media followed minutes later.
