Russia has expanded its restrictions on fish imports from Armenia, temporarily suspending certification for additional Armenian companies over alleged regulatory violations, according to the country’s agricultural watchdog.
The move effectively brings a halt to all fish product exports from Armenia to the Russian market.
Russia’s agricultural and veterinary authority, Rosselkhoznadzor, said it has temporarily suspended certification for two further Armenian enterprises until previously identified violations are resolved.
The decision follows earlier inspections and what the agency described as systemic non-compliance issues in fish production and export procedures.
Earlier measures had already targeted most fish exporters from Armenia, with Russia requesting a temporary suspension of certification for all fish products except those from two companies that were directly involved in inspection procedures.
Those firms — previously placed under enhanced laboratory monitoring — have now also been affected following further review of documentation and inspection results.
Rosselkhoznadzor stated that its actions are aimed at ensuring food safety standards for fish and seafood entering the Russian market from Russia.
The agency added that discussions with Armenian counterparts are ongoing, with the goal of addressing the identified violations and restoring compliance so that exports can potentially resume.
The suspension marks a significant disruption for Armenia’s seafood export sector, which relies heavily on access to the Russian market. No timeline has been given for when certification might be reinstated.
