Leaders of the Group of Seven wealthy nations will meet at a French lakeside resort on Monday against a backdrop of preliminary deal to end U.S. and Iran war reached by both sides.
The summit from 15-17 June will also focus on the war in Ukraine, global economic imbalances, and reducing reliance on critical minerals dominated by China.
U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to arrive in Évian-les-Bains on Monday for the summit, amid growing caution among global leaders toward Washington. French officials, however, welcomed his attendance after he left last year’s G7 meeting in Canada early.
Trump is due to meet with Middle Eastern leaders and attend a working session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the summit.
The Zelenskyy meeting on Tuesday comes at a time when Russian advances in Ukraine have slowed and Ukraine seeks more military funding from its allies.
G7 leaders will be keen to learn the details of the U.S.-Iran deal. A memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be officially signed on Friday in Switzerland but precise terms were not immediately known.
