President Donald Trump has officially established a federal task force to support the planning and execution of the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The executive order, signed Tuesday, marks a significant federal commitment to the first U.S.-hosted Olympics in more than two decades.
It'll be the first Olympic Games held in the United States since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The newly formed task force will work alongside local and state authorities, as well as the LA28 Organizing Committee.
“President Trump considers it a great honour to oversee this global sporting spectacle,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement.
“Sports have always been one of the president’s greatest passions, and he is committed to showcasing the very best of the United States on the world stage in 2028,” added Leavitt.
Casey Wasserman, President and Chair of LA28, welcomed the federal involvement.
“The establishment of this task force marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028,” said Wasserman.
The task force will include representatives from multiple federal agencies and will focus on areas such as security, transportation, and international coordination, ensuring that the 2028 Olympics are organized efficiently and safely.
