Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Ottawa on Monday, announcing CAN$28.4 million to support border security and development in the kingdom. The leaders also discussed trade, regional stability, and humanitarian aid.

Prime Minister Mark Carney hosted Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Ottawa on Monday, marking their first in-person meeting since Carney took office in March.

The two leaders explored ways to expand bilateral trade and investment as part of Canada’s broader strategy to diversify economic partnerships.

“They discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral commerce and investment as Canada diversifies its trade partners and builds a stronger economy,” Carney’s office said in a statement.

To reinforce cooperation, Carney pledged CAN$28.4 million (US$20.7 million) for Jordan’s border security, counter-terrorism capacity, and efforts to tackle transnational crime.

The funding will also support Jordan’s education and health sectors, along with job creation programmes for refugees.
