Türkiye’s Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler announced that security measures along the borders have been increased due to recent developments at the Iranian border. Güler traveled to Van with high-ranking military officials to conduct inspections along the Iran border.
Welcomed by Van Governor Ozan Balcı, Minister Güler held a videoconference with commanders of units under the 3rd Army Command to assess the situation in the region.
Addressing the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, Güler stated, “We are in a sensitive period, and it is essential that our country remains strong and vigilant against multifaceted threats.” He emphasized that Türkiye is carrying out “the most comprehensive and effective defense operations in its history” to ensure national security.
Highlighting successes in the fight against terrorism, Güler said that border security has been maintained and the terrorist threat removed from the country’s agenda. “The terrorist organization is now on the verge of laying down arms. This historic achievement has been made possible by our government’s determination and your determined efforts,” he added.
Güler strongly criticized Israel for causing instability in the region: “Israel is dragging our neighboring region into chaos with its actions. The international community must urgently act to stop Israel’s unlawful behavior.”
The minister noted that approximately 60,000 security personnel are currently deployed along the borders. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 38,000 illegal border crossings have been prevented, along with the capture of thousands of illegal migrants, terrorists, and narcotics.
Güler said Türkiye is steadily advancing toward its “Century of Türkiye” goals, strengthening its local defense industry and continuously renewing its military arsenal. “With projects such as our national combat aircraft Kaan and the ‘Steel Dome’ air defense system, which integrates domestically developed missiles, our goal is to maximize our defense capabilities,” he stated.
The Minister of National Defense stressed that they will continue working with all available resources to ensure border security and public safety, positioning Türkiye as a strong and stable actor amid the complex regional situation.
“Considering all developments in the region, we will continue to implement our multifaceted and strategic defense policies effectively. Your presence here is a source of pride for the Turkish nation, and I sincerely believe you will continue to perform your duties at the highest level,” Güler concluded.
