ICESCO Regional Office officially opened in Baku
The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) has opened its regional office in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Speaker Sahiba Gafarova and Turkish official Hulusi Akar reaffirmed strong bilateral ties, praising growing parliamentary cooperation, regional unity, and post-war reconstruction during their meeting in Baku.
Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, held a meeting with Hulusi Akar, Chairman of Türkiye’s National Defense Committee, during his official visit.
Both sides highlighted the enduring friendship between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, rooted in the principle of “One nation, two states,” and reaffirmed their commitment to mutual support in all areas. They praised the dynamic parliamentary cooperation, marked by frequent reciprocal visits, ongoing dialogue, and strong backing from lawmakers on both sides.
Hulusi Akar shared his impressions from visiting Shusha and Khankendi, noting the significant reconstruction efforts underway. He also acknowledged the importance of Azerbaijan’s territorial restoration under President Ilham Aliyev and expressed hope that Armenia would engage constructively in peace efforts extended by both Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Speaker Gafarova welcomed Akar’s supportive statements and described Shusha as a cultural and symbolic hub for the wider Turkic world. She added that Azerbaijan’s victory represents a unifying force for Turkic nations and a step toward greater regional solidarity.
The meeting also included discussions on other shared interests and regional developments.
