Azerbaijan has dispatched a fresh shipment of humanitarian aid to neighbouring Iran, in what officials describe as a continued effort to support a “friendly nation” during a period of need.
The consignment, authorised by President Ilham Aliyev, follows recent high-level discussions with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian. Those talks reportedly focused on practical assistance and regional co-operation, underscoring the importance both sides place on maintaining stable ties.
In total, the shipment amounts to 82 tonnes of aid. The bulk - some 76 tonnes - consists of foodstuffs and agricultural products, reflecting immediate needs. A further four tonnes comprise medicines, while two tonnes consist of medical equipment and related supplies.
The cargo is being transported by five lorries, which have already departed for Iran. Notably, this marks the first time that part of such assistance has been delivered using this specific logistical arrangement, according to officials.
With several holidays approaching, the shipment also includes special festive packages and traditional goods – a gesture intended to support communities during a culturally significant period.
Relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have historically been complex, shaped by geography, shared cultural links and political considerations. However, humanitarian co-operation has remained a consistent feature, particularly in times of hardship.
