Azerbaijan facilitates new grain transit to Armenia as regional trade expands

Another shipment of grain was sent to Armenia via transit through Azerbaijani territory on 4 February. The latest delivery consisted of eight wagons carrying 560 tonnes of grain dispatched from Azerbaijan to Armenia.

Including this shipment, a total of 20,660 tonnes of grain have now been transported from Russia to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory.

The continued transit reflects growing practical cooperation and the easing of transport restrictions between the two neighbouring countries amid ongoing efforts to normalise relations.

President Ilham Aliyev decided in October 2025 to lift restrictions on goods transiting through Azerbaijan to Armenia. The limitations had been in place during the period of Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories.

Since the decision, both direct and transit rail cargo movements along the route have proceeded without disruption, according to Azerbaijani officials.

In parallel, Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) has in recent weeks delivered several rail consignments of fuel, including petrol and diesel, to Armenia.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said diesel prices in Armenia have declined following the establishment of peace with Azerbaijan, citing improved regional connectivity and trade links.
