EU Commissioner Marta Kos begins three-day visit to Azerbaijan and Armenia

EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has set off today for a three-day visit to Azerbaijan and Armenia. The trip comes at a pivotal moment for EU engagement in the South Caucasus and aims to support the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process.

In Baku and Yerevan, Commissioner Kos will reiterate the EU’s commitment to peace, stability and sustainable development in the region.

In Azerbaijan, tomorrow the Commissioner will hold high-level meetings with President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, and Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov. She will also visit the town of Aghdam to meet representatives involved in demining operations. The EU is a leading international donor in mine action, providing equipment, training, and support to mine victims, as well as helping build the capacity of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action.

In Armenia, on Friday and Saturday, Commissioner Kos will meet President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, and Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan. She will take part in the signing of two projects with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, visit the EU4Sevan biodiversity project site, and tour the TUMO Centre for Creative Technologies.

In Yerevan, Commissioner Kos will also meet with civil society organisations, women leaders, and Young European Ambassadors.
