Israel is expected to participate in the upcoming EU-Southern Neighbourhood meeting in Brussels on June 23, which aims to strengthen cooperation with countries in the southern Mediterranean region.
The meeting will include ministers from 10 southern partners, such as Palestine, Egypt, and Morocco, and is focused on strengthening cooperation on governance, climate, energy, and migration.
While Israel’s participation—possibly including Foreign Minister Gideon Saar—is not yet fully confirmed, EU and Israeli officials say the meeting is proceeding as planned.
EU officials stress that the upcoming meeting will not focus on the Gaza conflict but will follow a broader cooperation agenda, grounded in the 1995 Barcelona Declaration and the EU's 2021 renewed Southern Neighbourhood policy. The EU remains Israel’s largest trade partner, with annual trade exceeding €45 billion.
