U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he will make a "very, very big announcement" in the coming days, describing it as “one of the most important announcements that have been made in many years,” though he provided no details on its content.
Speaking at the White House alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump said the announcement would be made on Thursday, Friday, or Monday, ahead of his scheduled visit to the Middle East later this month.
“It’ll be as big as it gets,” Trump told reporters. “It’s very positive.”
The White House confirmed that Trump will travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates from May 13–16. The trip had originally been planned as Trump’s first foreign visit since returning to office but was delayed following the death of Pope Francis, which prompted a last-minute visit to Rome for the pontiff’s funeral in April.
While speculation around the nature of Trump’s forthcoming announcement is mounting, the president did not provide any indication of whether it would relate to foreign policy, economic matters, or domestic legislation. The White House declined to comment further.
