U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the U.S. will stop airstrikes against Yemen's Houthi rebels after the group agreed to cease attacks on key shipping routes in the Middle East.

During a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House, Trump mentioned that the Houthis expressed a desire to end hostilities, saying, "They asked us to stop bombing and promised not to attack our ships anymore". He did not provide further details.

The Houthis, supported by Iran, have been targeting Israel and commercial vessels in the Red Sea since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7, 2023. The U.S. is now trusting the Houthis’ commitment to halt these attacks.

Tensions escalated recently when a Houthi missile landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, triggering Israeli airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah port. On Tuesday, Israel launched another airstrike, this time on the main airport in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa- the second such attack in two days.
