Tashkent is hosting the 2025 Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Annual General Assemblies, one of the most significant events in global motorsport and mobility governance, bringing together officials and delegates from around the world.
Nearly 500 representatives from 149 countries are attending the week-long gathering, which includes the FIA Presidential Election and the annual FIA Awards ceremony.
The event follows Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its role in international motorsport and road safety. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a high-level delegation led by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem to discuss cooperation with the organisation.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed opportunities to deepen collaboration across all levels of motorsport in Uzbekistan, from grassroots karting to elite competitions. A key focus was the development of local talent through expanded training and education, including programmes offered by the FIA University for drivers, engineers, constructors and mechanics.
Officials also discussed plans to build modern infrastructure for motorsport events in Uzbekistan and to implement programmes aimed at improving road-safety standards for pedestrians, motorists and transport systems nationwide.
Ben Sulayem expressed support for Uzbekistan’s ambition to host motorsport competitions of international calibre, including potential future Formula One stages. The proposal has drawn attention amid the country’s broader plans to enhance its sporting profile.
The FIA’s presence in Tashkent coincides with global interest in Formula One, following the conclusion of the 2025 season, in which Lando Norris won the World Championship, with Max Verstappen finishing second and Oscar Piastri third.
As part of the visit, President Mirziyoyev awarded Mohammed Ben Sulayem the Dustlik Order in recognition of his contribution to advancing cooperation and promoting motorsport in Uzbekistan according to international standards. Uzbekistan has been an active member of the FIA since 2019 and previously hosted a mid-year FIA General Assembly in Samarkand in 2024, marking the federation’s 120th anniversary.
Organisers and government officials say that hosting the assemblies underlines Uzbekistan’s growing profile in international sport and mobility. They also see it as a foundation for future large-scale events and a catalyst for expanded engagement in motorsport, transport innovation and road-safety initiatives.
