The United Arab Emirates (UAE) logistics operator DP World has announced plans to build a $288 million multimodal logistics hub in Tashkent. The project aims to boost Uzbekistan’s role as a major transit hub connecting Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
According to the Tashkent city administration, the new complex will be developed on a site of around 82 hectares within the Yangi Avlod special industrial zone in the Yangihayot district.
As a joint venture, DP World Tashkent LLC has been established to oversee the project, with DP World holding 85% and Tashkent Invest 15%.
The facility will include a dry port with rail connections for container and covered cargo, customs clearance zones, vehicle storage areas, parking for heavy trucks, Class A warehouses, and trans-shipment terminals.
During the first stage, the terminal is expected to feature a rail terminal capable of handling around 150,000 shipping containers per year and warehouse facilities covering 63,000 square metres.
Construction is scheduled for completion between late 2026 and early 2027.
DP World claims the Tashkent hub would enhance regional logistics efficiency and improve Uzbekistan’s access to global markets. The project is designed to facilitate smoother freight flows between Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, while also reducing transport costs and delivery times.
Officials expect the hub to create hundreds of skilled jobs and support Uzbekistan’s broader goal of developing into a regional transport and trade centre. The initiative also reflects the government’s long-term strategy to diversify trade corridors and attract foreign investment in logistics infrastructure.
Analysts note that the project highlights the growing interest of international investors in Uzbekistan’s transport sector.
Once operational, the DP World terminal is expected to become one of the largest logistics centres in Central Asia, offering integrated customs, storage, and multimodal transport services.
