Iran launches missile strikes towards Israel, sirens sounding in Jordan
Iran launched two waves of missile attacks against military positions in Israel on Sunday 7 June.

Sirens rang out across multiple areas of Israel on Sunday night after missiles were launched from Iran towards the country, the Israeli military said. Earlier, Tehran's top negotiator in talks with the U.S. threatened to target Israeli and American assets in the region, after Israel struck Beirut.

Aggressors have received their response tonight, top Iranian official says

Moshen Rezaei, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, has confirmed Iran's strikes on Israel.

Rezaei said Tehran had repeatedly warned that it would not tolerate ceasefire violations and attacks on Lebanon and that the strikes tonight constituted the so-called aggressors receiving their response. 

Iran's Revolutionary Guards has ordered Israel to stop its attacks on Lebanon or face "more crushing and regretful blows."

Meanwhile, Iran's state media has confirmed a second wave of missiles towards Israel. The country's military has said it has detected the additional launches. 

U.S. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the esalation, according to American news website Axios. 

Sirens are also sounding in Jordan, state TV from the Arab kingdom reports.

Iran's top negotiator threatens U.S. bases

The U.S. naval blockade of Iran and Washington's green light on Sunday for Israel to escalate attacks in Lebanon make U.S. bases and Israeli assets in the Middle East legitimate targets, Iran's top negotiator has said in a post on X.

The comments from Iran's Parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, follow Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital, a stronghold of Iran's ally, political and militant group Hezbollah.

"They are neither committed to a ceasefire nor believe in dialogue, and through the naval blockade and violation of agreements regarding Lebanon they showed that they only understand the language of power," Ghalibaf said in an apparent reference to the U.S. and Israel.

Iranian lawmaker warns Israel of 'painful response' after Beirut strike

Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei has threatened Israel with a "decisive and painful response" in a post on social media, after the country's military struck a site in Beiruit's southern suburbs. 

Earlier, the Israeli government said it had carried out an attack on a "terrorist" headquaters in the Hezbollah stronghold of Dahieh in the Lebanese capital. 

Israel said the strike was in response to Iran-backed Hezbolllah firing towards Israeli territory.

Trump: unfreezing Iranian assets won't happen before peace deal

Iranian assets won't be unfreezed, nor sanctions lifted, before a peace deal with Tehran is reached, U.S. President Donald Trump has said.

Speaking on NBC News, Trump said he would only consider such steps after an agreement was finalised. 

"Comes after," he said. "Yeah. If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking."

U.S. demands Iran opens up nuclear sites to UN watchdog

A draft resolution the U.S. has sent to other countries on the board of the UN nuclear watchdog (International Atomic Energy Agency) demands Iran provide "precise information" on its bombed nuclear sites and enriched uranium stocks.

Iran must "provide the Agency with precise information on nuclear material accountancy and safeguarded nuclear facilities in Iran" and "grant the Agency all access it requires to verify this information" without delay, the text seen by Reuters on Sunday said.

Israeli military strikes 'terrorist' headquarters in Beirut, government says

The Israeli military has struck "terrorist" headquarters in the Lebanese capital Beirut, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a joint statement with Defence Minister Israel Katz. 

The site was located in a Hezbollah stronghold in Beiruit's southern suburbs known as Dahiyeh. 

The two government figures said the strike was in response to Hezbolllah firing towards Israeli territory.

The Israeli military has told residents of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre and surrounding areas to evacuate ahead of possible strikes.

Earier, the Israeli military said it had intercepted two projectiles that crossed into Israeli territory from Lebanon. Responsibility for the launches has yet to be claimed.

Pakistani interior minister meets Iran's top diplomat in Tehran

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met in Tehran on Sunday with Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi amid Pakistan-led mediation efforts between Iran and the U.S. to end their conflict.

Iran’s World Cup squad has been told it must enter and leave the U.S. on the same day as its matches there, the Iranian envoy to Mexico told reporters on Sunday.

U.S. military shoots down 2 Iranian drones

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that American forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones over the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, the drones posed a threat to international maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.

Hezbollah reports attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon

Hezbollah said its fighters targeted an Israeli Merkava tank near the town of Hadatha and attacked Israeli soldiers in the vicinity of Yohmor al-Shaqif in southern Lebanon.

The group said the strikes followed at least 25 operations carried out against Israeli military positions and troops on Saturday.
