German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul continued his urgent Middle East tour with stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as Berlin seeks to help de-escalate the growing conflict between Iran and Israel.

In Riyadh, Wadephul met with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan, warning that Iran’s nuclear program poses a threat to both Saudi Arabia and Israel.

In Qatar, Wadephul told German broadcaster ARD he is "hopeful" a de-escalation can be reached soon. He urged regional partners to engage Iran, while Germany speaks with Israeli leaders to find common ground.

Qatari officials, meanwhile, condemned Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian soil, calling them a violation of Iran’s sovereignty.

Originally planned visits to Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Jordan have been cancelled due to the rapidly changing security situation. Wadephul is scheduled to meet with Oman’s foreign minister on Sunday—Oman has served as a key backchannel between Tehran and Washington over the nuclear issue.
