Ukraine confirms upcoming prisoner swap with Russia
Ukraine says a new prisoner exchange with Russia involving 1,000 troops from each side will begin next week.
Russia says its troops have entered the Dnipropetrovsk region for the first time, but Ukrainian officials reject the claim.
Russian officials claim their forces have, for the first time, pushed into Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region—an area they have been attempting to reach for months.
The announcement follows a statement from Russia’s Defence Ministry that its troops had reached the western edge of Donetsk, one of four provinces Russia illegally annexed in 2022.
The scale of the advance remains unclear, as do Moscow’s broader aims for the assault. Ukrainian officials have dismissed Russia’s claims as false.
If confirmed, the reported push into Dnipropetrovsk would mark a setback for Ukrainian forces at a time when peace talks remain stalled.
Meanwhile, Russian troops have also made incremental gains in the northern Sumy region in recent weeks.
