A fire at a hospital in Hamburg has left at least three people dead and more than 35 injured, as police investigate a 72-year-old patient in connection with the blaze.
At least three people have died and more than 35 others were injured after a fire broke out overnight at Marien Hospital in the German city of Hamburg.
Around 220 emergency workers were deployed to extinguish the blaze and assist patients. Two of the injured were transferred to another hospital, with one in critical condition.
Police have detained a 72-year-old man in connection with the incident. According to officials, witness statements suggest the man — a patient at the hospital — may be a suspect. His mental health is currently being assessed as part of the ongoing investigation. He is expected to appear before a judge on Monday.
